Conceived and written by a RATS member, ‘Where’s the Front?’ celebrates the work of the Entertainment National Service Association, better known as ENSA, during World War II. This organization employed both well-known and not-so-famous professional actors, singers and comedians to entertain serving troops in Britain and abroad during the war, often close to the fighting front.
Julie France, who wrote the script and is directing the show with RATS veteran Sheila Plant, said ”The show is something of a musical comedy, featuring songs and acts which would have been familiar to the whole country during the second World War. Many of the songs kept people at home, and troops in the battle zones, cheerful and optimistic during very dark times, and ENSA’s own ‘troops’ brought a little entertainment into the lives of military personnel who were fighting far from home. This show is our tribute to those ENSA entertainers.”
